Live-stage Demonstration of Cover Shots by Andrea Belluso Invites Audience Participation
Weekend visitors of XPOSURE 2016, Sharjah's first International Photography Festival, today attended keynote presentations, workshops and seminars, as well as a live-stage demonstration by world-renowned fashion and beauty photographer Andrea Belluso as part of day 3 of the seminal event.
Initiated by Sharjah Media Centre (SMC) under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, XPOSURE 2016 will conclude in the emirate tomorrow with an award ceremony to felicitate winners of a landmark photo competition that launched the event.
Seven winners of Timothy Allen's Travel Scholarship initiative attended a day-long workshop conducted by the seven-time Travel Photographer of the Year winner and lens man behind the camera for BBCs multi-award winning Human Planet series. The enthusiastic group joined the master photographer on an unusual desert safari to learn the finer nuances of travel photography.
An advanced level workshop on macro photography introduced professionals and serious photography enthusiasts to the pleasures and challenges of extreme close-up photography. Al Noor Island Butterfly Park, Sharjah's scenic destination on Khalid Lagoon, proved to be a fitting locale for the participants to capture the insect world at close quarters.
XPOSURE 2016 also hosted a two-day workshop on street photography, which provided the participants with an opportunity to learn tips, tricks and techniques of the trade from Vineet Vohra, a professional street photographer, lecturer, mentor and art editor of a leading magazine. Meanwhile, a second two-day workshop on food photography offered attendees some delectable insights into the art and craft of capturing mouthwatering images of food.
In addition, several beginner level courses on topics that covered basic skills and techniques of photography, including composition - and a session on licensing and selling of photographs through image libraries proved a big draw.
A key highlight of day 3 was Cover Shot', a live-stage demonstration by celebrated fashion photographer Andrea Belluso, with over 30 years of international work experience and a long list of top brand clients in his portfolio. Belluso, who has photographed Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell, Emma Sj berg, Caroline Winberg and Christy Turlington, among others, engaged the audience in an interactive session, where he demonstrated his unique techniques to achieve the desired effect in cover shots. The two-part session included a make-up and styling segment with the participation of social media phenomenon, TV personality and beauty influencer Noha Nabil.
In a keynote presentation titled A lifetime at f.8', Aidan J Sullivan, Vice President - Photo Assignment for Getty Images, shared his experience in creating a new reportage division that attracted several internationally renowned award-winning photojournalists, and is now considered a leading source of documentary photography.
Another seminar titled Colours of India', organised by Photo Walk Dubai (PWD), featured the works of members who have been on recent trips with PWD to exotic locations, such as Ladakh and Varanasi in India. The team also spoke about their experiences, and shared insights on travel photography.
World-renowned photographers David Alan Harvey, Carolyn Drake and Ian Berry explored the history of photojournalism in a seminar titled Magnum Photos'. The panelists also shared their views on the future of photojournalism and documentary photography.
For his part, David Yarrow, an internationally acclaimed fine art photographer and Europe's best-selling wildlife photographer, presented his collection of unparalleled nature photographs spanning seven continents at a seminar titled Wild Encounters'. Yarrow, who has travelled to some of the world's most isolated locations to capture unique images of wildlife, indigenous communities and landscapes, spoke about his work and experiences with some of the amazing wildlife he had encountered.
The day ended with a seminar titled Every Picture Tells a Story', hosted by Tom Stoddart. One of the world's most respected photojournalists, Stoddart has witnessed seminal world events, including the war of Lebanon, fall of the Berlin Wall, election of President Nelson Mandela and the bloody siege of Sarajevo during his long and varied career. The seminar provided a captivating and memorable insight into his life as a photojournalist.
