Years a Slave BAFTA s Best Film but Gravity dominates overall

Gravity dominated at the 62nd BAFTA Film Awards, picking up six awards including Best Director for Alfonso Cuar n and, weirdly, Outstanding British Film. (American studio Warner Bros. can thank British producer David Heyman for getting them into that category.)

However, it couldn't topple 12 Years a Slave for the British Academy of Film and Television Arts' top prize.

Though it was largely snubbed throughout the ceremony, 12 Years took home Best Film and Best Actor for London-born Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Cate Blanchett continued her unchallenged awards season run by collecting Best Actress for Blue Jasmine.

Newcomer Barkhad Abdi was named Best Supporting Actor for his turn in Captain Phillips, while Jennifer Lawrence earned one of American Hustle s three prizes by claiming Best Supporting Actor.
