Berklee students Nicolle Horbath (from Colombia) and Emanuel Lewis (from New York City) present The Dream-Viviendo el Sue o at the Berklee Performance Center on Wednesday, April 20, at 8:00 p.m.
The concert will feature Horbath, a singer-songwriter and arranger, performing a mix of covers and originals, including her new single Sue a (to be released on April 8), as well as four singers, two percussionists, and a drummer, with arrangements and musical direction conducted by Lewis. Backed by a 17-piece student-led band, the production will incorporate the music of Carlos Vives, Shakira, Tony Succar, and Bruno Mars, among others, along with dancers from Boston Conservatory at Berklee. In addition, Lucie Mullen, a graduate student of the live experience design program at Berklee NYC, has created the visuals for the concert.
Watch Nicolle Horbath on Berklees Two Track series:
Horbath, a graduating senior, and Lewis, a double major in performance and contemporary writing and production, teamed up last fall to form a cross-institutional collaboration highlighting the musical diversity of the Americas, from the beats of Barranquilla, Colombia, to the salsa sounds of New York City.
A 2018 recipient of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundations Carlos Vives Prodigy Scholarship, Horbath combines jazz, pop, and music from the Caribbean coast of Colombia and Latin America. She has opened for multiple Grammy winners, including Chucho Vald s and Juan Luis Guerra '82, as well as the five-time Grammy-nominated band Los Amigos Invisibles. Shes been invited to perform at Carlos Vivess show at the Boch Centers Wang Theatre in Boston this fall.
This concert is the fulfillment of many of the dreams I've had in my life. Music has been everything to me from a very young age, said Horbath. From the moment I got into Berklee, I was so inspired by everything that happened on the stage of the Berklee Performance Center, and I thought I want to be up there one day, and not only as a singer in a show, but as a singer and producer of my own songs,' and being so close to making that happen makes my heart extremely full.
Lewis, a notable musician in his own right, was awarded the Berklee World Tour and Berklee Outstanding Percussionist scholarships. Hes also the drummer, steel pannist, arranger, and musical director for the award-winning Ivorian musician Eva Sita B.M. '20.
This concert will be a celebration of our dreams coming true, said Lewis. And this show will be an invitation for everyone to dance, sing, and experience our Latin culture.
The Berklee Performance Center is located at 136 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston. Admission is $10 in advance and $15 on the day of the show. Discounted admission with a Berklee ID is free in advance and $5 on the day of the show. This is a seated event. Tickets are available online and at the Berklee Performance Center box office.
