BBC Worldwide s new local commission The Great South African Bake Off attracted record ratings during its premiere episode last week, positioning itself as the highest performing programme on BBC Lifestyle this year according to DSTVi/Kantar.

During the first episode of the show, the programme ranked BBC Lifestyle as the number three international channel overall on DStv, and the number two international channel among LSM 7-10 females aged 25 to34. Compared to its previous three months timeslot average, The Great South African Bake Off increased ratings among LSM 7 10 Females aged 25 to 34 by a significant 261%.

Episode one of The Great South African Bake Off was the highest ranking show on BBC Lifestyle among all adults since 2010. It was also the number three programme among 25 to 34 year olds on BBC Worldwide s channel portfolio since 2008.

On social media, The Great South African Bake Off trended number one on Twitter for two hours.
