The nominees for the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs) were announced on Thursday 14 July with series like The Wife, Blood & Water and The River all scoring nominations. How to Ruin Christmas actress Busi Lurayi, who passed away on Sunday 10 July, scored a posthumous nomination for Best Actress in a TV Comedy series. This comes after Lurayi won the SAFTA in the same category last year.

The 2022 SAFTAs are set to take place on 2 and 3 September.

BUSI LURAYI'S DEATH SHOCKS SOUTH AFRICA In a statement released by Busi Lurayi's talent agency, Eye Media Artists, the talented actress was pronounced dead at her home by medical personnel on 10 July.

Speaking to TimesLive, the actress' aunt, Soni Lurayi, said the star was excused from set due to feeling unwell. When she did not return to work, her father was notified and visited her house where he found her body in her daughter's room.

He called the police, who summoned the paramedics. Busi was declared dead at 23:15. The family is devastated.

-- ACTRESS SCORES A SAFTA NOMINATION The late Busi Lurayi received a SAFTA nomination for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for How to Ruin Christmas. This is her second nomination in the category after first being nominated for the same role in 2021.

Lurayi is nominated for the award alongside Ashley De Lange, Shamilla Miller, Julia Anastasopoulous and Ilse-Lee Van Niekerk.

The talented actress received her first SAFTA nomination for her role in City Ses'la in 2006.

BUSI LURAYI HAD NO PLANS TO RETURN TO HOW TO RUIN CHRISTMAS' Busi Lurayi was a fan-favourite in Netflix's How to Ruin Christmas but according to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, she had no plans to return for the series' third season.

According to Netflix, the Tumi character had wrapped its storyline in S2, wrote Mphela.

In the promo video for season three, Tumi had left the group chat , which signified her exit from the series.
