From the three-part rugby documentary, Two Sides, to the hilarious romantic comedy film, Kaalgat Karel, Showmax has hot local entertainment to warm you up this winter! Take a look at six Mzansi films to spice up your weekend.

MEET MELUSI' Directed by SAFTA-winning (South African Film and Television Awards) director Mandla N, Meet Melusi follows Aubrey, a man who loses everything after he's accused of bribery. When he's introduced to a 16-year-old boy who claims to be his son, Aubrey discovers the meaning of fatherhood.

The film stars SAFTA-winning stars Mothusi Magano, Linda Sebezo and Kenneth Nkosi. Other actors featured in the film include Nqobile Nunu Khumalo and Lungile Radebe.

SONS OF THE SEA' Sons of the Sea was named the Best South African Film at the 2021 Durban International Film Festival and stars Arendsvlei star Roberto Kyle as the lead. The film is set in a small fishing community on the outskirts of Cape Town and is the work of writer-director John Gutierrez.

The film stars Brenden Daniels, Nicole Fortuin and Marlon Swarts.

KAALGAT KAREL' Kaalgat Karel co-written and directed by Meg Rickards, was the third most-popular film at the South African box office in 2021. The Afrikaans film follows a hapless streaker who must find a way to bare his soul to win the heart of a single mom.

The romantic comedy stars Francois Jacobs and Christa Visser. SAFTA-winning comedians Schalk Bezuidenhout and Siv Ngesi, best known for his roles in Tali's Baby Diary and Still Breathing, also star in the film.

DOWN SO LONG' The Showmax original film, Down So Long centres around Joseph Mabena, who lives in an overcrowded 20-person house in the Hangberg fishing community. When Mabena is injured in a work accident, he is offered a substantial pay-out and his family try to get their hands on the money.

The film is co-directed and co-produced by Angie Mills and Damir Radonic and premiered at the 2022 Silwerskern Film Festival, was praised for its comedy and its stellar cast.

TWO SIDES' Two Sides is a behind-the-scenes look at 2021's historic British & Irish Lions series against the Springboks. The British & Irish Lions tour happens every four years and rotates between Australia, New Zealand and South Africa and it's a treasured opportunity for any Springbok player that comes around every 12 years.

The three-part documentary series travels to Lukhanyo Am's family in the Eastern Cape, to the hometown of Liam Williams in South Wales and also takes fans inside the Springbok changing room.

Two Sides is a must-watch for local sports fans.
