Brand new national radio station, Union Jack launches on DAB+

Union JACK is a fully interactive national DAB+ station, also available to stream live at unionjack.co.uk, via RadioPlayer and the Union JACK app.

Union JACK's mission is to play, promote and entertain the nation with a broad and distinctive mix of British music.

For the past six decades, Britain has been at the forefront of era defining music. From The Beatles to Ed Sheeran, The Rolling Stones to Coldplay, The Who to The Stone Roses, Oasis to April Towers, Union JACK will explore six decades of pioneering homegrown music as well as new artists.

The new radio station features an extensive playlist of music where listeners can choose what they'd like to hear from thousands of songs via the station's unique new app. The tracks are pushed up and down the playlist, leaving total control of the stations output in the hands of Union JACK's new audience.

Paul Eaton, head of digital radio at broadcast infrastructure provider Arqiva, added:

We're delighted that Union Jack has launched on Sound Digital as a DAB+ service that we operate. Demand for digital radio services in the UK is increasing, and the addition of Union Jack now means that the Sound Digital service is operating at full capacity.

Recent Rajar listening figures revealed encouraging news for digital listening that the share had increased from 44.1% to 45.3%.

More than 30 million adults say they own a digital radio, which is up by 10% year on year. Digital radio is really taking a hold in the UK and we're delighted to see stations such as Union Jack adding to customer choice on the platform.

We also continue to expand the UK local commercial DAB network which is due to be completed later this year. This increased coverage, and ever increasing choice of services will further strengthen the position of DAB as the preferred platform for UK radio listening .
