4 China-Japan-Korea Junior Sports Exchange Meet to be held

It is learned from the press conference held by Ningbo Sports Bureau that the opening ceremony of the 24th China-Japan-Korea Junior Sports Exchange Meet will be held at Ningbo Poly Grand Theatre of Cultural Plaza on August 24.

Reportedly, the sports teams of the Chinese delegation have started their training in Ningbo since August 18. The teams of Ningbo delegation had all settled down by August 22. The Japanese and Korean delegations will arrive at Ningbo on August 23.

The China-Japan-Korea Junior Sports Exchange Meet, starting from 1993, aims to promote the mutual understanding of the three countries, improve the standard of the junior sports and spot and cultivate distinctive young sportsmen, with the slogan of "friendship, progress and future". The sports meeting is hosted annually by one city of the three countries, and this year Ningbo will host the 23rd session. The other domestic cities that have hosted the event include Tangshan and Shijiazhuang of Hebei Province, Shenyang of Liaoning Province, Changchun of Jilin Province, Guilin of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Zhengzhou of Henan Province and Weifang of Shandong Province. The sports meet consists of 11 major categories, such as track & field and soccer.

This years session is sponsored by the General Administration of Sports and hosted by Ningbo Municipal Government and Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Sports, attracting the sports delegations from the three countries and one delegation from Ningbo, a total of 927 people, including officials, team leaders, coaches and athletes. The athletes, all 18 years old and below, will take part in the 55 items of the 11 categories, including track & field, soccer, basketball, volleyball, Pingpang, badminton, tennis, squash, weightlifting, handball and rugby. There are 254 people in Chinese and Japanese delegations respectively, 236 in the Korean delegation and 183 in Ningbo delegation. The 104 games will be held in such ten sports halls as Ningbo Sports Center, Beilun Sports & Art Center and Yinzhou District Stadium.

As the host of this sports meeting, Ningbo will take part in nine categories of games, including track & field, soccer, basketball, volleyball, Pingpang, badminton, tennis, squash and weightlifting. The 145 athletes of the Ningbo delegation are mainly players of Ningbo origin and the others are from the distinctive sports teams from Ningbo Sports School, Ningbo 2nd Junior Sports School and Ningbo Ball Sports Training Center.

The opening ceremony of the sports meet will be held at the Poly Grand Theatre at 5pm on August 24. The major performance named "Ningbo Story" will focus on the history and culture of Ningbo, the cultural exchanges of the three countries and the featured sports items of the three countries.
