Nora Niasari announced as TV director s attachment on Matchbox Pictures production Secret City

The Australian Directors Guild (ADG), Matchbox Pictures and Screen Australia today announced director Nora Niasari as the attachment to Emma Freeman on the Matchbox TV series Secret City for Foxtel. The industry incentive program is funded by Screen Australia and managed by the ADG for emerging directors to develop their craft.

Nora Niasari said: I m absolutely thrilled and honoured to be chosen as Emma Freeman's attachment on this exciting production. This is a great opportunity to move into directing for television and learn from such a talented director.

Nora Niasari started directing several years ago and recently graduated with a Master of Film and Television from the Victorian College of the Arts with a number of successful short films, including her most recent The Phoenix (Simorgh), which was nominated for Best Direction in a Student Film at the 2015 ADG Awards and was selected for the 2015 Melbourne International Film Festival's Accelerator Program.

Joanna Werner, Secret City's producer, said: We are delighted to welcome Nora Niasari to join Emma Freeman on Secret City. We hope that the experience Nora receives will give her insight and determination to pursue her career as a director of Australian television.

The Director's Attachment Scheme will provide eligible candidates with the opportunity for attachments on up to six TV drama series and three feature films in 2015.

In 2015, Christopher Stollery was attached to Grant Brown on the Playmaker TV series House Husbands, which was the first TV attachment under the ADG scheme. And recently Julietta Boscolo was attached to Geoff Bennett on the Playmaker TV series Love Child.

Previous attachments include: Grant Sputore attached to Kriv Stenders on Kill Me Three Times, Stephen McCallum attached the Tony Ayres on Cut Snake, Matthew Moore on the Robert Connolly directed film Paper Planes and Ariel Martin on the Neil Armfield directed Holding the Man.
