Horizon hosts major supply chain event

London, 24th October --- Horizon Nuclear Power is hosting a supply chain event today to give potential suppliers and contractors to the Wylfa Newydd Project the chance to learn about the hundreds of opportunities available for local and national businesses.

Representatives from businesses across Anglesey, North Wales and beyond have gathered at Venue Cymru, in Llandudno, to learn more about the opportunities that will be created by the project to build a new nuclear power station on Anglesey. The event is tailored for organisations that specialise in providing goods and services to the major engineering, procurement and construction aspects of the project.

Representatives from UK Government, Welsh Government, Isle of Anglesey County Council and the Nuclear Industry Association are participating in discussions throughout the day, to highlight how they can support companies in Wales and beyond to be business ready. The event is also covering the commercial structure, benefits for future generations, quality and scopes of work.

Rabih Hafez, Project Planning Director at Horizon Nuclear Power, and the event's Chair, said: We're delighted to host the first supply chain event since we announced the appointment of world-leading construction firm Bechtel as Project Management Contractor (PMC) this summer and signing further contracts with Hitachi Nuclear Energy Europe and JGC New Energy UK Limited (JGC).

We are thrilled to see how excited businesses are to get involved with the project, as demonstrated by this event being fully booked. Holding this event shows that we're now in a position to talk in more detail about the opportunities that will be unlocked by the project. It's a great sign of progress and fantastic opportunity for us to meet and talk to businesses across the supply chain, and give them advice on how to get ready for Wylfa Newydd.

The event also features exhibition stands from government, industry and local organisations, including Isle of Anglesey County Council, Nuclear Industry Association, Welsh Government, Construction Futures Wales, Business Wales Nuclear, Anglesey Enterprise Zone, North Wales Economic Ambition Board, Gr p Llandrillo Menai and M-SParc. Delegates are learning more about how these organisations can help support businesses in Wales.

Further follow on events will be held over the coming months, looking in detail at site services and associated supply.

Horizon Nuclear Power was formed in 2009 to develop new nuclear power stations in the UK. It was acquired by Hitachi, Ltd. in November 2012. The company is developing plans to build at least 5,800MW of new nuclear power generation plant at Wylfa on the Isle of Anglesey and Oldbury-on-Severn in South Gloucestershire.
