30th Annual WRAL-TV Coats for Children Campaign Brings in Record-Breaking Total

WRAL-TV hit a huge milestone for the 30th Coats for the Children Campaign. The final totals are now in, and the highest ever total has been raised to help the Salvation Army keep kids warm, $191,562! This total will completely outfit more than 1,500 children in our area with warm, winter gear for the cold months ahead.

It was such an exciting year for the entire team and the Salvation Army! said WRAL-TV Director of Local Production Phyllis Parish, who produces the Coats Telethon each December.

Parish will be retiring at the beginning of this March, and the great news for the 2018 campaign is perfect cap on her WRAL career.

This was my 30th telethon, she explained. Im proud of the growth weve seen in financial donations and winter clothing contributions over the last three decades. This is my favorite project of the year because were helping the Salvation Army help local families in need.

WRAL-TV collected new and gently used coats during November and December, with various drop-off locations throughout the Triangle. The 2018 Coats for the Children Telethon took place on Friday, December 14.

This recent cold blast brings home the need for everyone to have a warm coat, hat and gloves during our winter months, said Parish. A BIG thank you and thumbs up to you, and all of our generous viewers, for sharing warmth and hope with so many families.
