Presented by Berklee, NPR Music, WBGO FM, the Checkout - Live at Berklee, which brings critically acclaimed alumni back to their alma mater for intimate concerts at Cafe 939, continues with Argentinian composer and pianist Guillermo Klein on Wednesday, January 29.

Klein, described in the New York Times as rightly heralded in postmodern jazz circles for the flexibility, urgency, and otherworldly vision of his music, will perform with Bill McHenry, saxophone; Richard Nant, trumpet; Jeff Ballard, drums; and a Berklee student ensemble.

The concert will be webcast live in HD video at nprmusic.org and air in New York on WBGO FM. It will also be archived for on-demand listening at NPR Music and checkoutjazz.org. The concert and broadcast start at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the general public, $5 with a Berklee ID, and are available at cafe939.com or 617 747-2261. Cafe 939 is located at 939 Boylston Street, Boston, and is wheelchair accessible.

Inspired by legendary Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla, Klein began writing music at age 11. Wanting to further his talents, he left Argentina and enrolled at Berklee. As a student in Boston, he discovered the music of saxophone legend Wayne Shorter, bridging his classical and jazz influences. After graduation, he moved to New York City and formed Los Guachos, an 11-piece band that went on to release six critically acclaimed albums on Sunnyside Records. Kleins work as a composer and/or arranger is also featured on recordings with Miguel Zenon, Aaron Goldberg, and the MIT Wind Ensemble.
