Cisco cBR-8 Converged Cable Acce Platform Continues Global Impact

Philadelphia, SCTE Cable Tec-Expo 2016, September 27, 2016- The explosion of new over-the top (OTT) video service and consumer devices continues to place huge demand on cable access networks. Operators need more capacity, Gigabit speeds and an IP network that is more agile, elastic and virtualized to continue to deliver the best quality entertainment experiences for their customers. Key technologies such as SDN, NFV, DOCISIS, and Gigabit services, which are key themes at this years event, offer the capabilities to address these challenges.

With these trends in mind, Cisco launched its cBR-8 Converged Broadband Access Platform. In just over a years time, more than 100 service providers globally are reaping the benefits of the platform, achieving savings that could exceed 40 percent of capital and operating expenses over five years, compared with other converged cable access platforms (CCAP).

Today we announce, Cablevision Argentina is now deploying the cBR-8 to achieve higher density and capacity for its broadband network. This deployment will enable them to support DOCSIS 3.1 capabilities and offer Gigabit or multi-Gigabit services to their subscribers.

As one of the largest multiple system operators and the fastest growing broadband provider in Latin America, with more than 3.5 million video subscribers and 2.2 million broadband subscribers, Cablevision Argentina is accelerating the migration towards a converged access platform. They will deliver best-in-class broadband and video services using cBR-8 and next-generation HFC. This technology will allow them to reduce infrastructure cost and increase ARPU by offering more services based on higher bandwidth using DOCSIS 3.1, and support SDN and future virtualization.
