Andrew Garard to step down as ITV Group Legal Director and Company Secretary

ITV plc today (12th July, 2018) announced that Andrew Garard, Group Legal Director, General Counsel and Company Secretary, has decided to step down on July 31.

Garard joined ITV in 2007 as Group Legal Director and General Counsel, and became Company Secretary two years later. His responsibilities encompass legal and business affairs, group secretariat, rights management, information security, corporate responsibility, business continuity, risk management, insurance and health & safety. Garard also sits on the Board of ITN plc, having chaired the news and multimedia content company up until two years ago.

Garard will continue to provide assistance to the board of ITV in the coming months while a search for his successor is underway.

Peter Bazalgette, ITV Chairman, said:

Andrew has done a fantastic job for ITV over the last 11 years. We will very much miss his wise counsel and I personally will miss the sage advice he provided as Company Secretary, not least at the AGM.

With the strategy refresh well under way, I completely understand Andrews desire to spread his wings and look outside ITV for his next challenge. We wish him all the very best for the future.

Garard said:

I have had a great time at ITV having been actively involved not only in creating the strategy, but also its implementation and execution.

After 11 years, and working with my fourth Chief Executive, it is now the right time for me to move on. I leave behind a wonderful, dynamic team that I know will continue to be at the heart of ITV's business. I wish all at ITV the very best for the next stage of the company's growth.

Prior to ITV, Garard was a Partner in the corporate department of LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & Macrae, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and projects primarily in the telecoms and media sectors in Europe, Asia and the US.

He was also Group General Counsel & Company Secretary at Cable & Wireless PLC, where he was responsible for global legal, regulatory, compliance and insurance affairs. Garard also held positions at Reuters Group PLC, where he was Global Head of Legal & Deputy General Counsel based in the UK, as well as General Counsel Asia based in Hong Kong. Garard has also worked in the corporate departments of both Freshfields and Clifford Chance. Garard was the first European based General Counsel to be awarded the Law360 Most Innovative General Counsel and he picked up the Legal Business CSR Initiative of the Year in 2016.
