SGL NAB 2014 PREVIEW DOCUMENT 11 Feb 2014

SGLs FlashNet content management solution is designed to integrate seamlessly with NRCS, MAM or automation control systems to provide significant improvements to workflow efficiency without intruding on the users' familiar desktop. SGL's Open System architecture provides broadcasters, post production facilities, and news/sport organisations with reliable, scalable solutions with substantial cost and workflow benefits.

At NAB 2014 SGL will showcase:

SGL and FOR-A direct-acquisition-to-archive LTFS workflow: Acquiring material on the booth using a Go-Pro camera, SGL will demonstrate its live ingest-to-archive workflow using FOR-A's LTR Series, LTO-5 Video Archiving Recorder. Using an LTFS workflow, the combined FOR-A and SGL offering enables customers to archive material that's been recorded on the LTR, directly to LTO5 tape. Once in the SGL FlashNet archive, the material is available for use via FlashWeb, SGL's user interface. This workflow is particularly advantageous for production environments where new material, including live-event feeds, is ingested.

Full archive demonstration via Avid Interplay PAM: Since 2004 SGL and Avid have co-developed archive content storage management solutions for broadcasters using Avid solutions. The Avid Interplay Archive is the only fully integrated archive and storage management component for the Avid Interplay digital workflow engine. At NAB SGL will show a full archive demonstration via Avid's Interplay PAM system.

Archive demonstration via Avid Web Services: SGL will demonstrate the integration of FlashNet with Avid Interplay Web Services. Whilst the fully implemented Avid Interplay Archive provides a seamless user experience, smaller work groups may require a paired down version. SGL's support for Avid Web Services means that customers can use the archive capabilities that they currently require but can employ Avid Integrated Archive at any time in the future without the need to re-archive any content.

NRCS MOS support: SGL will highlight its support for MOS, which is used to integrate and link NRCS' with broadcast production applications and equipment. MOS enables journalists to control media devices inside the newsroom interface allowing each element of the newsroom production technology to speak a common XML-based language.

Also on show:

Partial file restore of QuickTime files - directly from tape.

FlashWeb - allowing broadcasters and content owners to easily archive and restore material to any configured FlashNet disk or tape group without the need for a controlling MAM or automation system.

FlashBrowse SGL's archive management application, which can be configured to provide at-archive browse creation, automatically generating browse resolution copies of clips as the high resolution versions are archived.

Support for LTFS - Material can be acquired directly to disk and then dragged and dropped to data tape and transported back to the facility removing the need to re-ingest content to the archive and enabling large amounts of data to be transported and archived on a single LTO tape.
