Stanford Medicine X | Withings Precision Research Challenge to explore impact of technology in managing chronic diseases

Palo Alto, CA - Nokia today announced The Stanford Medicine X | Withings Precision Research Challenge, a joint initiative designed to encourage scholarly research on chronic diseases that can be managed using Withings devices or informed by tapping into the global database of Withings users. The challenge encourages researchers, patients and educators in the health space to form teams to explore how patient-generated data can change healthcare.
The research challenge will ask healthcare stakeholders to create proposals around either a retrospective study using Withings database or a potential study using Withings devices with the purpose to identify and answer a specific research question related to chronic diseases such as hypertension and congestive heart failure. Teams will have access to Withings extensive database, which analyzes collections of aggregated anonymous data from millions of users across the globe to provide insight into health patterns and risk factors, and offer advice on embracing healthier lifestyles.

The winners of the challenge will present their work at Stanford Medicine X 2017 and receive mentorship from both Nokia and Stanford experts to help further their work. Stanford Medicine X is unique among health care technology conferences due to its focus on patient-centered innovation in health care and the exploration of technology to empower patients to be partners in their own care.
The Stanford Medicine X | Withings Precision Research Challenge is designed to apply rigorous academic evaluation and testing of new and emerging digital health tools, catalog current industry solutions and share this information through open and transparent means with the public, said Dr. Larry Chu, Executive Director of Stanford Medicine X. This challenge aims to address the needs of academic researchers, providers, patients, and innovators as the field of digital health continues to grow and the suite of medical tools and new technologies expands.
Acquired by Nokia in May 2016, Withings develops beautiful, smart health products and solutions that fit seamlessly into everyday life. Withings portfolio of connected health products, including activity trackers, monitors and scales, wirelessly capture a broad range of health information and share it with users so they can make better decisions about their health.
