Shaping the Future of Audio: Sennheiser and Neumann Focus on Recording Microphones and Immersive Audio at the 141st AES Convention

A full complement of classic recording microphones will also be on display at AES 2016: From Neumann, this will include the U87 Ai, TLM 67, KM 184 and several other recording staples. Among the recording microphones from Sennheiser are the recently introduced MK 8 multi-pattern microphone, as well as classic models from the MKH range, which can be turned into digital microphones using the MZD 8000 digital module.

The booth will also feature the entire Neumann monitor speaker range, including a live stereo set-up of KH 310 and KH 120 nearfields. Ongoing immersive audio demonstrations will be held in the demo room, where the 9.1 monitoring set-up includes KH 310 and KH 120 as well as KH 810 subwoofers. During the exhibition, Sennheiser will also unveil a design update' to one of its most sought-after professional headphones - targeting the next generation of recording engineers and music production professionals.

AMBEO 3D Audio and AVAR Conference Visitors to the Sennheiser and Neumann booth will have the opportunity to experience the promise of fully immersive audio. Recorded by Sennheiser using its AMBEO VR Mic, the demonstration of AMBEO - complete with 3D video - shows how this innovation is further closing the gap between audio playback and reality. The compact AMBEO VR Mic, which is scheduled to become commercially available in November 2016, is an ideal tool for VR production.

As part of the Audio for Virtual and Augmented Reality Conference (AVAR), which the AES will hold in parallel to this year's Convention, Sennheiser will participate in a panel on Immersive Sound Capture for Cinematic Virtual Reality , which takes place on October 1st from 11:30 to 12:30 in Theater Room 441. The panel will take a look at the technical and physical requirements that VR places on location sound engineers and discuss the benefits and constraints of spatial ambience and point sources. It finishes with an in-depth look at audio monitoring for VR productions. In an AVAR paper session, Sennheiser's Johannes Kares will present a paper he co-authored with V ronique Larcher on Streaming Immersive Audio Content. This session will take place on September 30, 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm in Room 409A. It will focus on various approaches that enable audio engineers to create immersive audio content for live streaming, either by using existing tools and network infrastructures to deliver static binaural audio, or by readying themselves for the emerging tools and workflows for Virtual Reality streaming. As Johannes Kares explains: Immersive audio for live music streaming is a topic of critical importance as it gives listeners the illusion of being transported to a totally different acoustic environment. This makes the streaming experience much more realistic and enjoyable.
