KabelKiosk is operated by Eutelsat Germany, a 100% subsidiary of Eutelsat S.A., one of the leading satellite operators in the world. KabelKiosk uses the Tvinci platform to allow about 300 affiliate companies to provide a sophisticated second generation internet-based TV service to more than 3.5 million German households. Using the KabelKiosk infrastructure and content, these affiliates can operate pay TV networks under their own brand.
Eutelsat KabelKiosk will make the content available on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, Hbb TV set-tob-boxes and PC/Mac. Each KabelKiosk network operator partner will have the option to customize as much or as little of the service as they wish.
Consumers are looking for a more immersive TV experience - something more than just a straightforward multi-screen service, said Martina Rutenbeck, Managing Director of Eutelsat visAvision GmbH, that operates the KabelKiosk. Tvinci's OTT 2.0 platform enables us to deploy a fully managed solution with an exceptional user experience. We have selected best of breed vendors to build our infrastructure, and Tvinci was selected because it offers the richest OTT platform and the right international track record in OTT TV, enabling our affiliates to easily manage their content, business rules and device apps.
Using Tvinci's OTT 2.0 platform, Eutelsat KabelKiosk customers can provide linear, EPG, restartTV, VOD and catch-up TV to their end users. Each subscriber household will have multiple sub accounts so that each end user can enjoy a relevant social and personal TV experience.
Our deployment for Eutelsat KabelKiosk is a great example of a global cable provider recognizing the opportunity that OTT TV offers to incumbent TV providers said Ofer Shayo, CEO, Tvinci. This sophisticated expansion of Eutelsats KabelKiosk offering helps their customers to future proof their TV business. Our platform is constructed to suit this type of multi-tenancy model where each account can be administered independently. Thanks to Eutelsat Germany, Tvinci becomes the platform used by millions of homes in Germany to watch TV in a personalized way, completely free of device constraints.
Other partners involved in the deployment include Harmonic (ingestion), Broadpeak (CDN), Playready (DRM), Marlin (DRM) and Rovi (VOD) EPG is supplied by PPS. The service is expected to roll out for customers later this year.
