Sky News Defence Insider app launches as new research reveals growing public concern about national security

Sky News Defence Insider launches today, a new subscription app designed for audiences seeking deeper insight into defence, security and global affairs: download here.

Priced at 14.99 per month, the standalone app gives subscribers exclusive access to deeper Sky News reporting, analysis and expert insight from some of the UKs leading defence and security journalists, including Defence and Security Editor Deborah Haynes and military analyst Michael Clarke.

Built around premium video, the app brings subscribers closer to Sky News journalists and leading experts, with opportunities to put questions directly to them and receive responses through dedicated Q&As and community discussions.

The launch comes amid growing public anxiety about an increasingly insecure world, reflected in new research from Sky News and YouGov. Nearly a third of Britons believe the UK is likely to face a military attack within the next decade, and there is growing debate about what the changing international landscape should mean for the UK's security and defence priorities.

Sky News Defence Insider provides subscribers with:

Exclusive video-led reporting, analysis and commentary on defence and security

Opportunity to ask Sky News journalists and leading experts questions directly through Q&As and community discussions

Frontline journalism, expert briefings and in-depth explainers

Interviews with military leaders, defence experts and key decision-makers

Early access to live events and subscriber-only experiences

The app builds on growing audience demand for Sky News defence journalism and follows the success of The Wargame podcast, which generated 3.6 million cross-platform listens and demonstrated strong appetite for in-depth reporting and analysis on national security issues.

The launch forms part of Sky News broader 2030 strategy to build deeper relationships with audiences around specialist content areas and premium video journalism.

Jonathan Levy, Executive Editor and Managing Director, Sky News, said:"Defence is an area where Sky News has real authority, expertise and distinctive journalism. As public interest in national security continues to grow, Defence Insider gives audiences direct access to the reporting, analysis and expert voices that help explain an increasingly complex world."

Deborah Haynes, Defence and Security Editor, Sky News, said:"For decades, Britain enjoyed a level of relative peace and security that many of us took for granted. Yet, with Russia's war in Ukraine, conflict in the Middle East and uncertainty about the extent of US military support to Europe in a crisis, understanding defence, security and wider national resilience has never been more important. The Defence Insider app gives audiences deeper access to Sky News reporting, analysis and expert insight, providing an inside track as the UK and its European allies attempt to rearm to confront a more dangerous world.

Defence Insider sits alongside the free Sky News app, offering a dedicated destination for audiences seeking more in-depth coverage of defence and security.
