The sounds of the season continue when country music's biggest stars perform holiday favourites on the CMA Country Christmas, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on City

TORONTO (November 18, 2013) Family sing-a-longs are back this season when City takes a fresh approach to holiday classics. Kicking off with a new rendition of a beloved holiday classic, The Sound of Music Live! stars GRAMMY Award winner Carrie Underwood and Stephen Moyer (True Blood). Live from New York, the three-hour telecast airs Thursday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. ET/PT (check local listings) on City. The merriment and joys of the season continue on City with the 4th annual CMA Country Christmas, airing Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT (check local listings). Hosted by Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles from the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, the two-hour special sees country music's top stars caroling through the night to their favourite holiday classics and sharing their holiday traditions and memories by the fireplace.

Both The Sound of Music Live! and CMA Country Christmas will be available on Citytv.com on desktop, tablet, and all mobile devices following the televised broadcasts.

Paying homage to the original 1959 Broadway musical stage production, The Sound of Music Live! features a stellar cast led by Carrie Underwood as Maria and Stephen Moyer as Captain von Trapp. Underwood and Moyer are joined by Tony Award -winning performers Audra McDonald (Private Practice) as Mother Abbess, Christian Borle (Smash) as Max Detweiler, and Laura Benanti (Go On) as Elsa Schrader.

Featuring sing-a-long favourites such as My Favourite Things and Sixteen Going on Seventeen, the iconic story takes place in pre-World War II Austria and centres on a young woman who leaves an Austrian convent to serve as governess to the seven children of a naval officer widower.

The Sound of Music Live! is produced by Universal Television and executive produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. The companion soundtrack to the live broadcast titled The Sound of Music Music From the NBC Television Event will be available on December 3 from Sony Masterworks in Canada, and will include studio recordings performed by the cast members.

The festive sounds of the south continue on City with the 4th annual CMA Country Christmas, airing Saturday, Dec. 7 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Hosted by Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles, the two-hour holiday special features country music's top artists celebrating their favourite holiday classics and memories. Viewers will see performances from Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Sheryl Crow, Kellie Pickler, Lucy Hale, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, and Mary J. Blige. Plus, a special performance from Willie Robertson from OLN's Duck Dynasty from the Robertson's Christmas album, Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas.
