News of the regions: Corporate kayaking for RUE Beltelecom branch employees and their families in Grodno region 26.08.2015

Kayaking is not only a joyful experience but also a good opportunity to escape from noisy polluted urban environment to enjoy the beauty of nature.

Perhaps, kayaking is one of the best ways to spend an active weekend.

The primary trade union organization of administrative and production apparatus organized a weekend trip for the employees of Grodno branch of RUE Beltelecom and their families at the last but one weekend of summer. After the working week the activists could enjoy the beauty of nature in a friendly atmosphere during 3 days.

On August 22, twenty-two brave and courageous branch employees went kayaking from the base Nemnovo along the Astashanka River, reached the Neman and entered August w canal. The length of the rout was 10 km.

Places located closer to the forest and far from urban settlements were preferred as the route because of unspoilt nature and lack of traces of civilization.

The second day was marked with cycling trip around places of military glory as we celebrate 70th anniversary of liberation from German - fascist invaders in World War II this year.

The youth who took part in this trip of Glory of the defenders of our homeland, said they fully appreciated new knowledge and experience they gained from this trip, enjoyed peaceful sky and fresh air, and strengthened their health. The length of the cycling trip was 25 km.

Three days passed quickly. And these three wonderful days our colleagues have spent enjoying nature, communicating with their colleagues and good mood, bonfire, guitar and favorite songs, will remain in their memory.

Historical reference.

There are three sluices in Belarusian part ofAugust w canal, one of them Nemnovo .It is located 7 km north-east from the Sopotskin village at 102nd km of August w canal. It is the largest sluice of the entire waterway, including its part in Poland.

Hydro technical construction was designed by Ignatiy Prondzinskiy. Colonel Yan Pavel Level was directly involved in the building and construction works. His name is immortalized on the plate fixed to the sluice. The sluice Nemnovo first had two chambers, but in 1833 the third chamber was constructed. The main reason is gravel digging from the Neman riverbed in the 70s of XX century, due to this activity Dmisevich zatoka appeared, which lowered the river water level to 1.5 meter.

The metal gates for the sluice were maid in Volcovysk foundry machinery factory. The weight of each construction is about 6 t. Wooden gates were constructed on the sluice as well. They are massive and comprise metal elements. The width 4 m, the height about 6 m. The weight of each construction is about 2 t. The wooden gates comprise special massive levers, allowing to open and close the gates manually. There are small holes at the foot of the construction for filling the sluice with water.

The chamber of the Nemnovo sluice demonstrated the power of the hydro technical construction of August w canal. Difference in water level is about 10 m, and sluicing takes about an hour. One can cross August w canal with the help of special moveable bridge.
