DVB looking face to Ultra high definition, virtual reality and IP distribution SAT > IP Alliance and the DVB Project are working hand in hand to make possible the distribution of content via IP within the home.
David Wood, at the front of the Groups work of Ultra high definition in the DVB Project, has made a review on the wheel of press of the Consortium in this edition of IBC to the situation that lives the DVB UHD-1 Phase 2 ensuring that different markets present needs different. When began to develop is the phase 1 the WCG was optional. However, he announced that from 2017, already in phase 2A, 4 K specification will include HDR and WCG. Wood believes that from 2019 it will also include high frame rate.
With regard to the reality virtual, Wood has interest that is an old idea that requires a huge investment in development and admits that in these moments the situation is somewhat chaotic since the technology is in full process of evolution.
Standardization groups are beginning to work on virtual reality and the publication of a report by a Commission for next fall is expected from DVB.
For the takeoff of the VR would be necessary, to trial of the DVB, a greater development technological in production, distribution and display to the same time that have very in has with what bit-rates is aims to work, the technical of compression, the channel of distribution and the comfort HMD.
Some experiences like the Olympics of Pyeongchang 2018 (Seoul) where intends to develop the project VTLive 80Mbit/s and distribution by 5G, could mark a milestone in the development of virtual reality.
Mobility and home
Peter Siebert, executive director of the DVB Project Office, pointed out that we need to address the growth in consumption in devices in mobility, even within the home.
It SAT > IP Alliance and the DVB Project are working hand in hand to make possible the distribution of content within the home. As it has been obvious this IBC the Protocol SAT > IP not only works with satellite but also with cable, terrestrial and IPTV (DVB-S2, DVB-C2 and DVB-T2 IP).
IBC 2016, DVB is demonstrating the work being done to normalize the distribution of high-quality content via satellite more efficiently to all IP devices in the home. Also is demonstrating the advantages that will be the innovative technology DVB-S2X.
To the win popularity tablets and phones smart for the consumption of the emission live of television, DVB is has prepared to offer a solution technical that allow arrive to these devices in optimal conditions. In a live demo, a DVB-T2 signal will become Internet Protocol using a server built into your own TV. The signal then, is broadcast to them devices client IP.
On the basis of the Protocol of communications SAT > IP to pass a signal broadcast satellite live satellite to networks IP, them signals of emission DVB is can now encapsulate in IP in the point of reception in a server IP. Effectively these servers IP added a layer of transport IP to while advises to the different customers on the services available. In principle can be applied to the entire family of platforms of first and second generation of transmission DVB (DVB-T/T2, DVB-S/S2/S2X, DVB-C/C2) and managed IPTV transmissions. SAT > IP Alliance and the DVB Project are working closely to make the distribution of content to handheld devices as easy as possible by incorporating new features.
A critical step for the introduction of DVB-S2X for DTH is to have efficient chips to low cost DVBV-S2X. The industry has State working to all speed in the development of the technology of consumption required. Now, those chipsets DVB-S2X in products of consumption are in the phase of prototype being of foresee that out to the market in brief. This will allow to the operators to use DVB-S2X also to DTH, even, very probably, to the delivery of them services in Ultra high definition.
At IBC we can see a demo in which a modulator ENENSYS carries the signal of video HD H254 to a smartphone from Asus and to a screen of Panasonic, desde donde a su vez se distribuye a una tableta mediante el nuevo protocolo DVB>IP.
