What does it mean to humble yourself, and why is it important?

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast. 11 To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

1 Peter 5:6-11(NIV) To humble yourself is an act of SURRENDER! It means that your heart/mind (emotions/thoughts) are fully geared towards trusting God so fully that you overcome whatever is thrown at you. Believing - to the point of truly feeling - that He is in control. Our God is large and in charge!

To know that God sees the bigger picture and is at work behind the scenes for your good - regardless of what you see or experience - if you love Him and recognise that you are called according to HIS purpose. Your life is not your own. It was bought at a great price.

Your Father in heaven loves you. He is completely committed to you, passionate about you! Whatever you are going through, humble yourself under His mighty hand and He WILL lift you up.

God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble His word says that rebellion is the sin of witchcraft (1 Samuel 15:23). When we doggedly determine to do things our way , we must realize that in the short-term things may go well for us. However, in the long run, it is always a disaster to go against the will of the Father.

He created us and knows what is best for us. He sees and knows things we have not even glimpsed. Trust Him! Be self-controlled and alert. Don't allow the enemy of your soul to deceive you his tactics of pride and deception are always the same, for he is the father of lies.

Though you may suffer for a while, God's grace is sufficient for you for His power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken (Psalm 27:35).

My Lord has carried me all the way until I reached this place (Deuteronomy 1:31), and I have experienced His faithfulness repeatedly throughout my life.

Though there have been many trials and tough circumstances, God has been the constant throughout. He has never left me nor forsaken me (Hebrews 13:5). He continues to strengthen me and uphold me with His righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10)

Never give up - ride it out! Hold steadfast to His promises, which are yes and amen in Christ.

As you surrender and humble yourself amid difficult circumstances or temptations to sin, you will find your heart changing - becoming more like Christ, eager to do the will of the Father.

4 Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever suffers in the body is done with sin. 2 As a result, they do not live the rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but rather for the will of God.

1 Peter 4:1-2 (NIV) Bring your thoughts, words, and feelings into subjection to Him and He WILL lift you up!

PRAYER Father - thank you for being faithful and true.

Help us in our firm resolve to surrender our all to you - minute by minute, day by day. We long to honour and please you and bring glory to your name.

You are worthy! We humble ourselves under your mighty hand that you may lift us up in due course. In the mighty name of our Lord and Saviour who paid such a high price for us.

Amen
