Sony announces new updates to QX Lens-Style cameras

Building upon the feedback of customers who have discovered the amazing new world of photography with QX Lens-style cameras, users of the QX100 and QX10 will now benefit from a host of new features.

The QX100 now offers the ability to shoot in Shutter Priority mode meaning that users can fully control their shutter speed (1/3 EV step from 30 - 1/2000) to suit their shooting style, whether that is capturing that millisecond shot of animal in motion or extending the exposure length for truly dramatic pictures. Users of the QX100 will now also benefit from an extended range of ISO settings which are now selectable by the user. In Programmable Auto mode, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority mode, the ISO range has been extended to cover ISO160 - ISO12800[i] meaning that the already impressive low-light performance of the QX100 has been improved even further. Finally, users will now have the ability to shoot video in Full HD (1920 x 1080 at 30p) when recording MP4 files[ii] so every detail is captured and will look stunning when played back on an HD television.

The QX10 lens-style camera also benefits from greater flexibility with ISO settings now selectable in Program Auto' mode across the extended range of ISO100-ISO3200[iii], giving the user more control over the type of shot that they want to achieve and the tools to ensure that the light in their photograph looks just how they want it to. In addition, higher quality MP4 video recording (1920 x 1080 at 30p) ii means that the QX10 brings together stunning stills and video performance that will beautifully capture the moment, whatever the occasion.

The firmware upgrade will be delivered via a software download from www.sony.co.uk and is available now.

In addition, Sony continues to update and improve the connectivity of the QX interface to meet users' demands for a more seamless experience. The QX Lens-style cameras now offer the ability to transition between taking your shot and accessing the preview function without interrupting the Wi-Fi connection, and the time it takes to establish a Wi-Fi connection has been shortened by half.

Tablet users can now benefit from a new attachment that allows them to connect the QX Lens-style cameras directly to their devices, offering them the opportunity to take beautifully detailed photographs with the QX100 and QX10 from a fixed position that are just not possible with the in-built camera. The new SPA-TA1 complements the smartphone attachment that is supplied in the box to fit a variety of tablets and is adjustable between 75mm and 200mm (height) and has a depth of up to 13mm. The SPA-TA1 tablet attachment will be generally available in Europe from March 2014. Furthermore, owners of the new Xperia Z1 Compact can also purchase a new attachment case to fully enjoy the benefits of shooting with a QX camera. The new SPA-ACX4 is available from March 2014.
