Sports remains one of the most challenging forms of live television and event production due to the multitude of signal acquisition points, and the very long distances that are often required to move video, audio and data back to the truck, studio or headend, says President Frank Jachetta. Fiber remains the most reliable means to manage and transport many high-resolution, bandwidth-heavy signals across these broad signal architectures.

MultiDyne continues to innovate new products and systems that simplify these processes in sports production through versatile platforms that also reduce costs and labor through lightweight, durable product designs that deliver richer features in smaller packages, he continues. Earlier this year, CP Communications managed the entire RF transmission infrastructure for the 118th U.S. Open Championship, which took place June 12-17 at the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, NY. A significant contributor to the production team the past three years, this year marked the first time that CP Communications was entrusted with all RF transmission responsibilities.

CP Communications brought its flagship HD-11 and HD-21 RF production trucks and its RF8 Fiber B-Unit truck, which accommodated Fox's fiber-optic and communications systems, to this year's event. Both HD-11 and HD-21 featured RF routers with a fiber interface to allow the trucks to work in conjunction with each other. Each truck also applied MultiDyne VF-9000 fiber transmission platforms to natively accept 3Gb/s (4K) and HD camera feeds over RF from Sony cameras in the field. The signals remained in pure RF across the entire architecture before being handed to the Fox Sports team in raw form.
