Ningbo fashion industry meets new opportunities

The first "one belt one road" International Cooperation Summit and Docking Meeting for Fashion Industry was held in Ningbo on October 21. It is learned at the meeting that with the acceleration of the "one belt one road" initiative, the textile and fashion industry in Ningbo is getting out of the difficulties and meeting new opportunities for development.

According to Yang Jichao, Deputy-director of China National Textile and Apparel Council and Director of China Knitting Industry Association, China has upgraded its trade in the textile and fashion industry with the countries along the "one belt and one road" route to an overall cooperation period, and these countries have gradually become the destination for investment rather than just the destination for trade.

As to how to realize the industrial implementation and promote the resources sharing with the "one belt one road" countries, Qiao Peiwei, an expert of the industry, said, "fashion plus technology plus creational design plus e-commerce is the future of the fashion industry."

Statistics show that by the end of 2015 Ningbo had established 526 overseas branches or agencies in 40 countries along the "one belt one road" area, with the investment volume of US$1.97 billion, accounting for 23.2% and 19.7% of the total for the citys overseas investment.

"The one belt one road initiative brings about new opportunities for the clustering development of the local fashion industry, and the cluster trade has become an important pattern for the fashion enterprises to participate in the one belt one road development." said Yang Jichao. Currently, a large group of Ningbo enterprises, including Youngor, Shenzhou, Seduno and BROS, have gained competitive edge in the global industrial competition by taking the lead to conduct comprehensive cooperation with the "one belt one road" countries.

"We establish our overseas branches not to bring the backward production patterns to those developing countries, but to promote the local production and consumption with the most advanced technologies and the to realize the mutual development." said Wang Yongfang, Deputy General Manager of the Seduno Group, at the forum. The company is accelerating its multinational industrial layout by integrating the resources of the "one belt one road" area. So far, it has established the production bases in Cambodia and Vietnam, and Vietnam is becoming a major destination of the groups overseas investment. In the first three quarters of this year, the company achieved a total sales volume of 3.916 billion yuan, up by 21.2% over the same period of last year, with the export volume of US$385 million, up by 11.92%.
