LOS ANGELES, March 15, 2013 CBS Studios International and Japan's Avex Entertainment Inc. today announced the expansion of their multi-year licensing agreement to include CBS programming on SoftBank Mobile's subscription video-on-demand service, UULA.
The UULA service, a joint venture between Avex Entertainment and Softbank, will now include content for SoftBank's smartphone and tablet subscribers from CBS's extensive television library, including early seasons of current hits such as NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles and 90210 and full seasons of classic series such as Star Trek, Star Trek: Enterprise, Medium and The 4400. The UULA service joins Avex's existing dVideo subscription on-demand service, available to customers of mobile carrier NTT Docomo.
We're excited to expand this content licensing agreement and provide UULA subscribers the flexibility to watch CBS programming on their mobile devices, said Barry Chamberlain, Executive Vice President, CBS Studios International. Avex Entertainment Inc.(AVEX) is Japans leading music & video content company based in Tokyo, Japan, and is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Avex Group Holidings, Japan's leading entertainment conglomerate. AVEXs business arm expanded to the digital space when Avex Broadcasting & Communications Inc., a joint venture company between AVEX and NTT Docomo Inc., Japan's leading mobile carrier company, launched d-market Video Store powered by BeeTV, a 525 Yen/ month Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) exclusive to NTT Domocos Andorid OS devices on November 2011. The SVOD service has been renamed to dVideo powered by BeeTV(dVideo), and as of end of 2012, the service has over 3,500,000 subscribers. Within the past year, AVEX established a new joint venture company UULA Inc. with Softbank Corp., a parent company of a major Japans mobile carrier, Softbank Mobile Corp. UULA Inc. launched UULA, a 490 Yen/ month subscription on-demand service exclusive to Softbank Mobile Corp's smartphones and tablets including iPhones and iPads, on Feburary 14, 2013.
