The world's toughest adventure race kicks off the next edition in just over a year - and the tension is already beginning to mount. With each race comes a new route and most importantly, new athletes. Have you got the skills and resilience to hike and paraglide over 1,000km across the beautiful but treacherous Alps? It's time to find out because the application phase for Red Bull X-Alps 2021 is officially open until August 31, 2020.

Literally anything can happen in this race, from unpredictable weather conditions to near-miss landings in ravines. Every race is tougher than the last and it takes an athlete with not only the physical aptitude, but also an extremely strong mind to push all the way to the end.

Join the official Red Bull X-Alps 2021 Instagram Livestream at 2pm (CEST) on July 1, 2020, with well-known athletes, Tom de Dorlodot (BEL) and Gavin McClurg (USA1), kicking off a great start to another edition of the world's toughest adventure race. Tom de Dorlodot is full of tips and tricks after having competed in six previous editions, as well as having just finished a solo crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in a sailboat. Gavin McClurg is a 5-time participant in Red Bull X-Alps and a renowned world adventurer about to set new records! You don't want to miss it, so tune in for tips on the application process and everything that has happened since the last race.

The athlete selection process has always been very strict, says race director Christoph Weber. The search for the best athletes for Red Bull X-Alps takes a lot of time and investigation. We have to take into account many factors such as their experience, previous competitive results and their abilities as pilots and mountaineers. Also important is that they have the physical and mental strength required to participate.

If you're ready to take part in the worlds toughest adventure race, make sure you tune in to the livestream at 2pm (CEST) on Instagram and start sending in your applications. Remember you have until August 31, 2020, before the judges make their decision. The official 2021 athletes will be announced on October 14, 2020, and the race begins June 20, 2021. About Red Bull X-Alps

Red Bull X-Alps 2021 will start on June 20 and will be the tenth edition of the world's toughest adventure race. Approximately 30 world-class athletes will go head-to-head in a grueling journey across the Alps, covering over 1000km of Alpine terrain by foot and paraglider. Along the way, they'll stop at a currently undisclosed number of turnpoints in a handful of different countries. With each race comes an entirely new route, bringing even more action than the last.

Before the main event, a one-day prologue race will see athletes jostle for their starting position before a tense and excited audience. The top three finishers will earn themselves an additional Night Pass; allowing them to continue onwards through the mandatory rest period during the main race.

The last edition of Red Bull X-Alps ended on June 27, 2019, with 32 athletes from 20 countries pushing their endurance in hiking, trail running, mountaineering and paragliding to the limit. Their daily adventures in the mountains demand the highest level of physical strength and determination. Ultimately, the competitor's mental fortitude and race strategy are the deciding factor. Before taking to the air each day, athletes must assess the ever-changing weather conditions and decide where and when to take off. It's exactly this that makes Red Bull X-Alps so exciting and so unpredictable.

If the last edition was anything to go by, Red Bull X-Alps 2021 is set to be the most dramatic face-off of both new and seasoned talent that the world has ever seen. Who will stand strong in the face of adversity and conquer all to become the champion of Red Bull X-Alps 2021? We'll soon find out!
