The nominations for the 2022 South African Film and Television (SAFTAs) were announced on Thursday 14 July with Showmax Originals scoring 52 nominations. This year, there are several first-time nominees including Bonko Khoza, who is nominated for his role as Mqhele Zulu in The Wife.

LEA VIVIER DAM' Lea Vivier is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Drama for her role as Yola in Dam. Vivier says she was on set filming and found out about her nomination during lunch when she took her phone off of airplane mode.

I immediately started screaming and laughing and yelling, all the emotions bubbling out of me in one go. I felt ecstatic and giggly and giddy and over the moon because I poured every single fibre of my being as an actress into the character and the project, so it feels wonderful to receive some recognition.

BONKO KHOZA THE WIFE' Bonko Khoza stole Mzansi's heart as Mqhele in The Wife. Khoza is nominated for Best Actor in a Telenovela.

ANTON TAYLOR TALI'S BABY DIARY' Anton Taylor, best known for his role in Tali's Baby Diary, is nominated for Best Actor in a TV Comedy for his role as Darren. The actor says he was walking through the front door when he saw noticed Showmax had tagged him in a post so he ran to tell his girlfriend.

It took us a moment to realise that I'd been nominated and then we both started screaming, there in the kitchen. I just felt so happy. You dream about something about your whole life and then one day you're in the kitchen and the penny drops and you realise that it came true.

Looking back, half a decade ago, it must have been quite a leap of faith for Ari and Julia and everybody at Showmax to cast me as the male lead of their first original series. But they did and it changed my life.

ILSE-LEE VAN NIEKERK TROUKOORS' Ilse-Lee van Niekerk is nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for her role as Jessica in Troukoors.

I'm so grateful for the nomination and for the chance to work with the incredible cast and crew of Troukoors (all of whom I miss terribly!)

SIV NGESI DAM' Siv Ngesi is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Victor in Dam. Ngesi found out about the nomination during a meeting. This marks his first acting SAFTA nomination.

I was in the meeting with Ashley de Lange and then she found out she was nominated for Best Actress in a TV Comedy for G.I.L, so we both celebrated. And then I called my mom, he explained.

KATE PINCHUCK TALI'S BABY DIARY' Kate Pinchuck scored a nomination for her role as Taryn in Tali's Baby Diary. Pinchuck says she can't believe it, but she's thrilled.

It was such a joy bringing Taryn to ridiculous life and I'm so proud of Tali's Baby Diary for getting 11 fr*kken SAFTA noms!

-- NEIL SANDILANDS DAM' Neil Sandilands is the third first-time nominee from Dam. He is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Drama for his role as Bernoldus in the series and found out about the nomination while in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles.

The temptation to wax philosophical was momentous indeed, but let me simply say the black coffee and sweet doughnut never tasted finer.

NATASHA LORING DAM' Natasha Loring says she is still blown away by her Best Supporting Actress in a TV Drama nomination for her role as Sienna in Dam.

I knew from the first time I read the script that Dam was going to be something special and it exceeded my expectations.

It was a massive team effort. Everyone poured their heart and souls into this show. I am so proud to be a part of this production and blown away that the SAFTAs have recognised the show in so many categories, said the actress.

KELSEY EGAN GLASSHOUSE' Kelsey Egan, the director of Glasshouse, says making the film was a gift. Glasshouse is nominated for six SAFTAs including Best Film.

Thank you to the creative wunderkinds who helped bring our dystopian fairytale to life and to the SAFTAs for recognising these achievements. Not even a global pandemic could stop the team that built Glasshouse.
