Tjovitjo, a brand new local drama series starting on SABC 1 this weekend on Sunday 20 August 2017, at 20h00.

Tjovitjo is a local drama series representing cutting-edge storytelling at its best, authentic and edgy, provocative yet exciting in its potential to push the envelope. The series depicts the lives of a group of dancers, amatjovitjo trained in the classical dance style of SePantsula. They struggle, they love, they laugh, they lose but every chance they get, every time they feel like giving up, every time the world reminds them that their life is one of strife, they dance.

In the midst of this, they zig-zag their neighbourhood with booby traps and obstacles, some seen, some unseen. They watch the goings-on around them, some hilarious some heart-breaking, every time their troubles bring them down, they dance.

No pity, and no entitlement, their world forgotten by Joburgs gentrifiers, and tenderpreneurs, their lives go on, still, with or without an audience they dance.

The series premise is a love triangle between an out of favour dance crew leader called Mafred, played by Warren Masemola, and an out of town new arrival girl Kopano, played by Soso Rungqu who develops an interest to the beautiful girl in the community Mandisa, played by Lali Dangazela.

But there s also another silent conflict taking place. Bra Terror, played by Rapulane

Seiphemo, together with Ausi Tshidi, played by Harriet Manamela, are secrete lovers who are fighting an unscrupulous businessman Phunyuka, played by Khulu Sekenjani who together with Reverend Mabusa, played by Ntosh Madlingosi, are trying to take over the neighbourhood.

This is a battle for the soul of TJOVITJO community.

Episode 1: DEATH ON A BIRTHDAY

It s the day of the training parade of about 100 pantsula dancers, each crew is focusing on their routine. It is Zinhle s birthday but she wakes up cheerless Mbali (Ntombi) invites her to party with blessers.
