Free Summer Concerts at Carson Beach

The Dwells

For four Saturdays in August, up-and-coming Berklee musicians will perform free concerts at Carson Beach, a part of Berklee Summer in the City, presented by Natixis Global Asset Management. The concerts will be held every Saturday in the month of August at 2:00 p.m., from August 3 through August 24, weather permitting. Carson Beach is best accessible by the Red Line, getting off at the JKF stop. From there, it's only about a 20-minute walk or so to the beach. If you choose to drive there from Boston, it will take around 15 minutes, and there is plenty of parking in two lots in the neighboring area.

August 3 - Joes Truck Stop

You can usually find the band ripping apart old-time fiddle tunes, saying grace to its country heroes, and dishing out original songs to the dancing feet in the crowd. Its unique sound is characterized by bluegrass vocal harmonies and twin fiddle lines, driving Appalachian dance tunes, and lonely honky tonk songs.

August 10 - Bronwyn Keith-Hynes

Accepted on a scholarship to Berklee at age 16, she graduated in 2013 with a diploma in violin performance. Keith-Hynes is fast gaining recognition for her fiddling across many genres, including bluegrass, Irish, Cape Breton, and old time music. Keith-Hynes has performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts; the Inter Celtic Festival in Lorient, France; and the Freshgrass Bluegrass Festival, among others. She toured France in 2012 with the international Irish music and dance show Celtic dances, and she has also performed with Tomaseen Foley's Irish Times show alongside Grammy winner Bill Coulter. She performs regularly with artists from the Boston area, including Annalivia, Mark Kilianski and the Moonshine Ramblers, and George Clements, and BB Bowness.

August 17 - We Avalanche

Their specific brand of folk music is representative of this undying desire to explore the unexplored, attempting to preserve this historic art form while pursuing progress as well. Often characterized by the unique blend of their instruments (voice, guitar, cello, and mandolin), We Avalanches sound is uncommon. Often drawing comparisons to recent acts such as Elliott Smith, Sonic Youth, and Joanna Newsom, We Avalanche puts new spins on a dearly respected tradition, resulting in either a flutter of strings pulling rhyme into motion or a cacophonous rumble, as free as it is inspired. We Avalanche recorded its debut album, Time Travels, in Nashville, Tennessee, and released it in 2012 its hometown of Boston.

August 24 - The Dwells

The Dwells are a vocal swirl, drenched in memorable lyrics and infectious songwriting, pulling inspiration from drama and expression in all mediums. The bands new album Dont Ever Leave Me Like You Do was released in May with legends such as Henry Diltz (album photographer of The Morrison Hotel and Sweet Baby James) collaborating artistically with the duo.
