London Lumiere

How did we beat the January blues ? We saw lights, lots of lights! Many of us Finishers joined the London crowds last week and over the weekend by walking amongst the beautiful light installations at the first Lumiere London. The four day event caused more crowds last Saturday night than the new year sale rush! Taxi drivers swore in frustration as many streets in central London were overtaken with people looking up and around them experiencing extraordinary sights that some say felt like Christmas all over again.

Initiated and organised by Artichoke, an organisation who proclaim to . use art to undermine the mundane and disrupt the everyday, and create a new kind of world that wed all like to live in. along side the Mayor of London plus a host of sponsors.

Some of our favourites were:

1.8 London On Thursday evening we wondered what this pretty net thing hanging above Oxford Circus was all about .apparently it was a 3D rendition of the 1.8 seconds we lost the day the 2011 Earthquake in Japan hit and caused a massive Tsunami. The installation could be interacted with via an app. Created by Janet Echelman / Studio Echelman.

IFO (Identified Flying Object Created by French artist and architect Jaques Rival. Kings Cross. was beautiful to walk inside and if you were lucky to get a place on the swing, you could pretend you were a bird bathing in a cage of revolving light.

Circle of light Granary Square. A giant big top projected onto the Granary building. The project has involved residents of Kings Cross.

Litre of light installation highlighting a simple technology that is providing sustainable lighting solutions for communities across the world. A tunnel of colourful plastic bottles by Central St Martins Students & Myshelter Foundation.

Spectra 3 . Interactive light piece that tracks and follows viewers as you move around it.

Diver Ron Haselden. Set above Kings Cross pond which featured an animated neon figure diving into it splash and all.

Neon dogs Deepa Mann-Kler Trafalgar Square. Inspired by balloon dogs at children's parties!

With so much to see at Kings Cross and sites all over the West End it was hard to get to everything we say bring it back next year for longer so we can see more!
