Lights! Camera! Action! The 98th Oscars set to air live as RT backs the Irish nominees
RT is championing Jessie Buckley, Retirement Place, Blue Moon, Element pictures' Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe and Richard Baneham ahead of the biggest night in film

There is significant Irish interest in this year's Oscars ceremony. After winning a Golden Globe, Actor Award, IFTA and BAFTA for her portrayal of Agnes Hathaway in Hamnet already this season, Kerry native Jessie Buckley is nominated for Best Actress. RT will bring fans through the lead up to the big night as well as the glamour from the event itself.
The RT and F s ireann / Screen Ireland supported short film Retirement Plan, which is directed by Dublin-based filmmaker John Kelly and voiced by actor Domhnall Gleeson, is up for Best Animated Short. Ahead of the Oscars, it will be shown on RT One on Saturday 14 March at 10.50pm. It is currently available to stream on RT Player.
The animated film was funded by Frameworks, RT and F s ireann/Screen Ireland's flagship animation short film scheme, which invests in new talent on the island of Ireland every year. It has produced global award-winning films to a consistently high standard. Each year RT and Screen Ireland fund a number of short animations and Retirement Plan was chosen as one of the 2024 selections.
Also nominated for Best Picture is Bugonia, which is co-produced by Irish production company Element Pictures, and Richard Baneham is on the short list for Best Visual Effects for Avatar: Fire and Ash. Blue Moon, which was made in Ireland and produced in association with the Dublin-based Wild Atlantic Pictures, has received two nominations
A taste of Hollywood is coming to RT this weekend as the 98th Oscars airs with coverage across video, audio and online.
The Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O'Brien, will be live from the Dolby Theatre in Ovation Hollywood on Sunday 15 March at 11pm on RT One and RT Player.
Highlights of the biggest night in film will be shown on Monday 16 March at 9.30pm on RT 2 and the whole event will be available on demand on RT Player.
RT Arts and Media Correspondent Evelyn O'Rourke will report on the action live from Hollywood for RT News as the Irish talent arrives in tinsel town with rolling updates across television, radio and social channels.
RT 2FM presenter Emma Power will have access all areas in Los Angeles in the lead up to the event. She will bring the latest updates from the Oscar Wilde party green carpet and the Oscars red carpet as well as interviews with the big screen's most famous faces across 2FM shows over the weekend. Emma will also be live on RT Radio 1's Oliver Callan on Monday morning as she gives the lowdown on the previous night's winners.
On RT Today James Patrice will be live from Killarney where he will be chatting to some of Jessie Buckley's friends and family after Sunday's winners list is revealed.
Over on RT lyric fm Aed n Gormley will roll out the green carpet with her annual look at Irish made and Irish themed films, from Michael Collins to An Cail n Ci in, from The Banshees of Inisherin to My Left Foot, and Odd Man Out to Brooklyn. A famine setting for Arracht and Black 4, great musical moments in Once and The Commitments and impressive animated tales in Song of the Sea and Wolfwalkers. It will be a celebration of Irish film on Movies and Musicals with Aed n Gormley on Saturday 14 March from 1pm to 4pm.
RT Radio 1's Arena has a special show bringing listeners interviews with Oscar nominees. The show, which is available to listen back to on rte.ie/radio/arena, features highlights from conversations with stars including; Best Actress nominee Emma Stone (Bugonia), Best Actor nominee Wagner Moura (The Secret Agent), Best Supporting Actor nominee Stellan Skarsg rd (Sentimental Value), Best Director nominee Ryan Coogler (Sinners) and Best Adapted Screenplay nominee, Maggie O'Farrell (Hamnet).
RT 's Instagram, TikTok, X and Facebook accounts will have all the behind the scenes news. RT Entertainment and RT Lifestyle will also have all the gossip and fashion at the most anticipated night in the awards calendar.
