ITV News appoints Paul Brand as UK Editor

ITV News has announced that Paul Brand has been appointed as UK Editor. In the new role, Paul, who is currently Political Correspondent, will lead on the major issues facing the UK telling the stories that affect people and their daily lives. He will be the go-to specialist for the latest major home affairs and social affairs stories, responsible for reporting the impact of policy in those areas on families up and down the country for the network.

His immediate focus will be on the social impact of coronavirus and Brexit across the country. He will also provide special long form reports for ITV's Tonight programme and ITV's current affairs strand, On Assignment.

In recent years, Paul has covered some of the biggest stories in the UK, winning Political Journalist of the Year at the prestigious British Journalism Awards in 2020 for his agenda-setting work on the Covid-19 crisis in care homes. As Political Correspondent, he has reported on many of the seminal moments of our age, including two general elections, as well as being the first reporter to call the defining result in Sunderland on the night of the EU referendum. He has carried out a string of career-changing interviews with politicians, including Rebecca Long-Bailey rating Jeremy Corbyn ten out of ten' and Dominic Raab refusing to call himself a feminist. His investigation into the practice of so-called gay conversion therapy' and subsequent exclusive with the Prime Minister won him the title of Broadcaster of the Year at the Pink News Awards 2019.

Paul started his career as a production journalist at ITV Wales, before becoming a reporter. He later worked as Political Correspondent for ITV Yorkshire and ITV Tyne Tees & Border, before covering politics for Good Morning Britain and joining the network ITV News team in 2016.

Paul hosts the ITV News podcast Acting Prime Minister' featuring guests from across the political spectrum and is also the co-founder of the LGBT+ campaign School Diversity Week.
