Ningbo Aims to Make MICE Waves

MICE (meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition) tourism has become a new form of consumption in Ningbo. Ever since the 1st Ningbo MICE Sourcing Fair, MICE market in Ningbo has expanded enormously, with professional conferences such as medical meetings, IT summits and electronics conferences choosing Ningbo as the host city. In order to further expand the MICE market, the 4th Ningbo MICE Sourcing Fair was held at Pan Pacific Ningbo on Oct. 23rd. The Fair invited MICE buyers from places such as Beijing and Shanghai for negotiation and field study and served as a platform for related enterprises.

MICE Buyers Gathered in Ningbo, Mostly from First-tier Cities

MICE tourism is considered a goldmine in the high-end tourism industry. These years, high-end MICE market in Ningbo has been developing rapidly. MICE tourism has become one of the main businesses of star-rated hotels, taking up 20 to 30 percent of the total income. And hotel industries' enthusiasm for MICE market impressed many international MICE buyers.

Ningbo hotels' motivation for MICE has increased considerably compared with several years ago. commented Mr. Tao Jinliang from UTour International Travel Service Co., Ltd. Through close cooperation with Ningbo, he feels that the service quality and professional standards of Ningbo hotels have improved greatly. MICE tourism market in Ningbo will have a broad space for development, said Tao.

The Fair invited over 40 professional buyers from first-tier cities like Beijing and Shanghai, including buyers from the most renowned MICE companies and public relations agencies such as BlueFocus Communication Group. Buyers, mainly those in charge of purchasing departments and business segments, will further drive the market through direct business negotiations with local MICE enterprises, said Chen Gang, deputy director-general of Ningbo Tourism Bureau.

Alliance Established to Create MICE Brands

In the Fair, the opening ceremony of Ningbo MICE Promotion Alliance was held. The Alliance is led by Ningbo Tourism Image Promotion Centre and its members include convention hotels, professional MICE companies, fleets, meeting venues, tourism administrations and among others.

The Alliance helps get through the industry chain and provide support for Ningbo to undertake middle to high end conferences. Chen Gang said the Alliance was to further integrate MICE resources, give full play to Ningbo's advantages in MICE tourism, create MICE brands and in the meanwhile, to listen to the voices from members of the Alliance. Next year, their suggestions will be taken into account in the promotion strategy of Ningbo MICE market to make the work more targeted and efficient, said Chen.

Ningbo has 39 five-star hotels now, ranking the seventh in China. Top hotels from home and abroad are successively opening in Ningbo, including Marriott, Park Hyatt, Langham, Pan Pacific, InterContinental, Landison and Shangri-La.
