Intel and Warner Bros. showcased possibilities for entertainment in self-driving vehicles at CES 2019, unveiling a tricked-out car that transports guests on a virtual ride through Gotham City. The 2019 BMW X5 is retrofitted with large-screen TV, mobile devices and immersive audio (narrated by Batman's butler Alfred). Read more about the unveiling on Deadline.

Meanwhile, Walt Disney Studios and Verizon announced a partnership to explore the possibilities of 5G connectivity for media and entertainment. The partnership will give Disney the ability to use next-generation wireless broadband with peak data transmission rates of 10 gigabits per second, reports Variety.

8K TVs, voice assistants and new display technologies such as micro LED and rollable OLED also took centre stage, with the first roll-up TV (a 65-inch LG OLED model) making its debut at the Las Vegas show. Find out more here.

Samsung also unveiled a new 75-inch 4K UHD TV using an improved version of its Micro LED technology, currently deployed in its 146-inch Wall TVs. The company announced that the technology is able to produce a 4K image in half the size of The Wall, as reported by Twice.

Vewd revealed another partnership with chipset design company NOVATEK to enable Vewd OS on chipsets powering Linux-based smart TVs. Vewd said this provides manufacturers with a pre-integrated smart TV OS containing the most requested advanced smart TV features.

Compression, image processing and security specialist intoPIX introduced the JPEG-XS standard with a demo of its TICO-XS FPGA and ASIC IP-cores. The new standard is said to help CE manufacturers realise cost and power savings, simplify connectivity and preserve quality with no latency.
