Integrating recruiter instincts with job seeker behavioral insights is the future of successful recruiting strategies. Today, LinkedIn has released the Inside the Mind of Today's Candidate report, a survey of more than 14,000 global professionals which shines a light into the attitudes and habits of job seekers and helps inform strategies for HR, talent acquisition and business leaders, looking to grow their talent pipeline.
The report showcases how professionals are finding jobs, what drives them to change roles, and what they are looking for at the various stages of the process. Key findings include:
With companies like McDonald's taking to Snapchat to hire, social media is still a key element for sharing opportunities: Nearly half of all professionals (49%) are following companies on social media with the intent to stay aware of their jobs.
Professionals today place a premium on culture and mission: 40% of respondents wanted to hear about culture, and 27% wanted to hear about mission in their first contact with a recruiter.
The hiring managers involvement in the hiring process, early is important: 56% of people are more likely to respond to outreach from a hiring manager than a recruiter.
Growth in a company is a major part of whether candidates choose to stay or leave: Besides a pay raise (45%), people are most likely to leave a job for better skills and interest fit (37%), more growth opportunities (37%) and more challenging work (36%)
One of the keys to retaining employees is to offer learning tools. Opportunities for challenge or to improve their skills (56%) is the biggest reason people want to stay in their current job.
Companies should be prepared for turnover: only 37% of people plan to stay at their job more than 3 years; however people who plan to stay 3+ years cited that they plan to stick around because of 1) great work-life balance (36%), 2) alignment with company values (26%), and 3) flexible work/telecommuting opportunities (26%).
This intersection of insights and instincts will ultimately lead to better understanding today's jobseeker and more importantly, how to attract and retain quality talent.
