iZotope buys up Exponential Audio's reverb range

Founder Michael Carnes joins iZotope research team

Michael Carnes, founder and owner of Exponential Audio, whose product line is now owned by iZotope. Michael is joining the iZotope development team as part of the deal.

Respected US software manufacturer iZotope have announced the purchase of the Exponential Audio line of software reverbs, which includes R2 and Phoenixverb (reviewed SOS March 2014) and R4 (see SOS July 2017). As part of the deal, Exponential founder and former Lexicon engineer Michael Carnes (who was part of the team behind the 960L, the PCM96 and various Lexicon plug-ins amongst other products) is joining the iZotope development team.

There are, as yet, no announcements of any new products - clearly, its early days for the two companies working together. However, in an interesting video that accompanied the announcement, iZotopes CEO and co-founder, Mark Ethier admitted that iZotope have felt theyve never really developed a reverb that theyve been completely happy with; clearly, this is a foolproof way of ensuring that they can develop one! iZotope have been clear that Exponential products will now be sold via iZotopes site, and, most importantly, that existing owners of Exponential products will now be supported by the iZotope customer care team. All in all, the deal looks like good news for owners of products from both companies. A set of FAQs relating to the sale is available at the link below.
