The disruption is in the air: chains explore the possibilities that opens 5G technology Caroline Chan, vicepresidenta del Network Platforms Group y directora general de la Divisi n de Infraestructura de 5G en Intel, imparti en IBC 2017 una ponencia donde destac la capacidad de la tecnolog a 5G para revolucionar el suministro de contenidos y para monetizar unas experiencias nuevas e inmersivas.
El sector de cadenas de medios y radiodifusi n deber a prepararse ya para aprovechar las oportunidades que va a ofrecer la pr xima era de tecnolog a 5G, seg n afirma Caroline Chan, vicepresidenta del Network Platforms Group y directora general de la Divisi n de Infraestructura de 5G en Intel Corporation. Chan ha impartido recientemente una ponencia a expertos del sector de las cadenas de medios en la IBC Conference de este a o, que se celebr en msterdam del 14 al 18 de septiembre, en donde destac la capacidad de la tecnolog a 5G para revolucionar el suministro de contenidos y para monetizar unas experiencias nuevas e inmersivas.
Al frente del grupo de expertos que impartieron una ponencia sobre liderazgo de la transformaci n de los medios digitales en la era de las redes 5G , Chan analiz la capacidad de las redes 5G para ofrecer a las compa as de medios y a las marcas oportunidades sin precedentes para conocer a los clientes justo donde quieren estar, adem s de proporcionarles nuevas experiencias y servicios para mejorar sus vidas. Ralf Jacob, presidente de Verizon Digital Media Services; Emili Planas, director de tecnolog a y director de operaciones en Mediapro y Steve Plunkett, director de tecnolog a en la divisi n Broadcast and Media Services en Ericsson tambi n participaron con Chan en el panel de expertos.
Se est n acelerando las inversiones para preparar a las compa as para la tecnolog a 5G, transformando sus redes para satisfacer la creciente demanda de nuevas experiencias impulsadas por la demanda por parte de los consumidores de un entretenimiento nico e inmersivo, desde cualquier dispositivo y en tiempo real. Estas experiencias mejorar n las relaciones con los clientes y proporcionar n nuevas oportunidades para obtener ingresos.
En los deportes, por ejemplo, las tecnolog as Intel True VR e Intel freeD posibilitan unas experiencias m s inmersivas que acercan a los aficionados a la acci n, tanto en los estadios como en sus hogares. El objetivo es ofrecer a los aficionados una experiencia m s personalizada y m s control a la hora de interactuar con sus ligas, equipos y jugadores favoritos, ya sea en realidad virtual o con vistas de 360 de las mejores jugadas en los diversos dispositivos y canales digitales.
Caroline Chan coment : te imaginas si, durante un partido, pudieras conectarte a contenidos en tiempo real? Quieres ver a los jugadores desde cualquier ngulo en el Jumbotron o ver los momentos m s destacados y las repeticiones de las jugadas en una amplia variedad de dispositivos?
Chan explic c mo los suministradores de servicios est n instalando inteligencia inform tica lo m s cerca posible de los aficionados y de los dispositivos para garantizar experiencias de la mayor calidad posible.
Multiacceso
Por ejemplo, Intel ha colaborado con China Unicom, Nokia y Tencent para ofrecer en el Shanghai Mercedes Benz Arena una soluci n inform tica local multiacceso. Los clientes de China Unicom que visiten este estadio, podr n disfrutar de una vista del evento desde m ltiples ngulos, gracias a la soluci n Nokia Edge Video Orchestration (EVO) con tecnolog a Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC). La tecnolog a MEC tambi n permite a los clientes de China Unicom disfrutar de una experiencia de visualizaci n en tiempo real muy mejorada, gracias a una menor latencia dentro del estadio
Con un enorme potencial a n por aprovechar, Chan explic que las redes deben dise arse con la inteligencia, la flexibilidad y la velocidad necesarias para ofrecer soporte a estas experiencias nuevas e inmersivas. Para ello, nuevas tecnolog as como las redes definidas por software (SDN) y la virtualizaci n de funciones de red (NFV) son componentes esenciales para esta transformaci n.
Los suministradores de servicios est n invirtiendo en la transformaci n de sus redes, pero tambi n van a instalar nuevas tecnolog as para captura y cifrado para minimizar las necesidades de ancho de banda para la creaci n, la transmisi n y el consumo de contenido de v deo , a adi Chan.
Para concluir la ponencia, Chan solicit a los directivos de las cadenas de medios que comenzar n a considerar los efectos en sus negocios de los desarrollos futuros como resultado de la implantaci n de la tecnolog a 5G, ya que las empresas pioneras en ese campo van a estar preparadas para lograr xito en el mundo 5G. Ahora es el momento para que los suministradores de servicios de comunicaciones y otras operadoras de red pongan en marcha las infraestructuras correspondientes.
