Nevion's new VideoIPath 5 lays the foundation for virtualization posted: 22/08/2016
Major upgrade to Nevion's media network and service manager also makes managing networks in remote production and broadcast facilities easier
Nevion, award-winning provider of virtualized media production solutions, is launching its new VideoIPath software to meet the emerging network and service management challenges for broadcasters and service providers of IP production in a world where the distinction between facilities and contribution is blurring, and where virtualization will play an increasing role.
The new VideoIPath 5 is a major software upgrade in terms of architecture and functionality to enable an even higher level of scalability, responsiveness and ease of use.
VideoIPath 5 will be shown for the first time at IBC2016 both on Nevion's booth (Hall 1, B71) and in the LiveIP set-up used by IBC TV (Hall 8, D10). It will demonstrate how operators can handle more devices and larger network infrastructures, simplify the set-up of devices and links and provision end-to-end paths across COTS routers/switches using Software Defined Networks (SDN) and technologies like IGMP (Internet Group Management Protocol), OpenFlow and native interfaces.
The upgraded software also provides more support for third party products, and increases openness and integration with the third party interfaces thanks to its new REST-based API. It also offers a raft of new features to enhance the monitoring of links, devices and services.
Geir Bryn-Jensen, CEO, Nevion said: This new release of VideoIPath reflects how the industry is changing. As the lines between contribution and studio are blurring, the amount and type of equipment and services that need to be managed has significantly increased, and routing and connections have become more complex. At the same time more and more transport and processing functionality is being provided by software, and even virtualized, so the role of media network management is evolving dramatically. The latest release of VideoIPath has been developed to meet these new challenges.
Nevion's renowned VideoIPath has been successfully deployed by many leading broadcasters and service providers in multiple large and complex environments, providing a platform for managing media networks and the services that run on them. One of the latest high profile deployments was in the recent LiveIP, the world's first proof of concept of a complete live production that relies exclusively on IP.
The VideoIPath service management platform formed the backbone of the set-up used in the live production and was used to assist the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Belgian public broadcasting company VRT in delivering the first live on-air broadcast using the VRT Sandbox LiveIP Studio.
