Twofour and ITV to capture Prince Harry and wounded service men & women in South Pole race

Twofour has been commissioned to produce a 2 x 60 minute ITV series charting Prince Harry and service men and women as they take on the toughest and coldest challenge yet: racing 335km to the South Pole.

Against the stunning Antarctica backdrop, Harrys South Pole Heroes will discover the inspiring and emotional stories of wounded servicemen and women from across the world, comrades in arms on the battlefield and now united again in their determination to overcome life changing injuries.

Twofour will capture three groups competing in the Walking With The Wounded-organised South Pole Allied Challenge 2013, from the UK, the US and the Commonwealth, with a particular focus on the UK team, spearheaded by Prince Harry. The race follows a series of increasingly challenging expeditions undertaken by wounded service men and women, fronted by Prince Harry.

The UK team will include double leg amputee Duncan Slater, who believes limitations are only in the mind; arm amputee Ibrar Ali MC, a member of the Yorkshire Regiment, who walks in memory of two colleagues killed in action; left leg amputee Kate Philp, the first British woman to lose a limb on the frontline; and right leg amputee Guy Disney, taking on a second pole after joining Walking With The Wounded and Prince Harry in the Arctic in 2011.

The groups incredible drive, determination and unquenchable spirit will be tested in some of the most inhospitable conditions on the planet. Expedition training is underway with the team set to arrive on the continent in November.

Speaking at the launch of the South Pole Allied Challenge 2013, Prince Harry said: "...these men and women have given their all in the cause of freedom, in our cause, and that they should once again step into the breach, this time facing down the extreme physical and mental challenges of trekking to the south pole, just underlines their remarkable qualities."

Melanie Leach, Twofours MD, said: "Its a privilege to work alongside Prince Harry and Walking With The Wounded on this, their third incredible challenge. The teams bravery, ambition and outright determination to be the first to reach the pole guarantees this will be a unique and compelling series."

The executive team behind ITV hit Harrys Mountain Heroes will produce the documentary - Twofours Bridget Sneyd and Melanie Leach will executive produce, and producer/director Alexis Girardet will capture the adventure every step of the way. The series was commissioned by Katy Thorogood and is set to air in 2014.

In addition to the two-part series for ITV, Twofour has signed a deal with NBC to produce a 1 x 60 show for US broadcasting to air in 2014. Alongside highlights from the ITV series, the special will include exclusively shot material of the US team. The deal was brokered by Anthony Appell, Head of Sales, Twofour Rights.
