National Geographic Channels International Announces New European Production from ITV Studios Norway

Oslo - February 25, 2015 National Geographic Channels International (NGCI) today announced the commission of a new European series from ITV Studios Norway, the first long series format shot entirely in Norway for the channel's European footprint.

The untitled project follows the wild and rugged men who work the specialised tow trucks on the treacherous mountain roads between Oslo and Bergen, Norway. Filming was conducted on the Hardangervidda, one of the country's most famous mountain passes, and in Odda and Eidfjord in the nearby fjord region of Hardanger where each winter hundreds of trucks and other vehicles, representing millions in trade, get trapped in the snows, go sliding off the road, or even worse go careening down steep embankments. The mountain ranges between Norway's two main cities are unforgiving - and in winter, can be fatal. Even for the most experienced drivers it's a high risk business the men who work the monster tow trucks are often the only thing that stands between them and ultimate disaster.

This new project forms part of the European productions developed by the channel's programme commissions and content hub in the U.K., under the leadership of Hamish Mykura as Executive Vice President & Head of International Content.

Heavy transport on these winter roads is challenging and without these guys, main roads are blocked for traffic. Fortunately, these men are prepared to help, no matter what the weather conditions are like. They do an excellent piece of work.

This has been a great winter for filming. The production crew have experienced tough conditions with strong blizzards and storms and some amazing rescues on the roads.
