Nomfundo selected for 6th Annual Jozi Film Festival

Nomfundo , a short film produced by Passion Seed Communications, has been selected for the prominent Jozi Film Festival. Running for its 6th year, the Film Festival will take place between the 21st and the 24th of September 2017 in the city after which the festival was named, Jozi (Johannesburg).

With the motto: We Love Jozi. We Love Film, JFF was initially conceptualized to create a platform for independent local filmmakers to showcase their work and since 2014 the festival started accepting films from all over the world and is now one of the sub-continent's leading festivals.

This will be the second local film festival that Nomfundo will be screened at. The South African premiere was at the Mzansi Women's Film Festival in August. The world premiere was at the Helsinki African Film Festival in Finland, the North American premiere was at the Black Star Film Festival in Philadelphia and the forthcoming Australian Premiere will be on the 15th of September in Melbourne. Nomfundo is a SiSwati film about a tormented and impulsive young woman who is pregnant with her first child. When the people she holds close to her heart betray her, she makes an erratic decision that unleashes a tragic chain of events. Dineo Lusenga plays the role of Nomfundo. Other cast members include Laki Koza, Thobile Kubeka, Onthatile Matshidiso and Ofentse Kharoli.

Independent filmmakers Dineo Lusenga and Sihle Hlophe collaborated to self-fund the film. The duo used a South African crowdfunding platform called Thundafund to raise additional funds. The National Film & Video Foundation came on board to assist with funding the post-production process. Lusenga is an actress, director, producer and radio DJ who has acted on TV shows such as Intersexions, Mutual Friends and Hard Copy while Hlophe is an award-winning writer/director whose work has been screened at film festivals on various continents. This is the third time we will be screening Nomfundo in South Africa. We hope that everyone who missed the first two screenings in Johannesburg will be able to join us for this treat Dineo Lusenga.
