Hispasat and Intelsat join forces at 55.5 or to increase capacity in Latin America Both operators located jointly in that position the Galaxy 11 Intelsat and Amazonas satellites Hispasat 1 over the next two years, increasing its ability to expand its services in this dynamic region.
HISPASAT has announced on Tuesday the signing of an agreement with Intelsat to provide services jointly in the orbital position 55.5 West. This agreement will allow both companies to strengthen its position in Latin America.
Under the agreement, the Amazonas satellite Hispasat 1 two operators provide an immediate increase of capacity in Latin America for the next two years. HISPASAT will use the Amazon part 1 from this new location to provide audiovisual services linked to the World Cup of soccer in Brazil.
The Spanish satellite operator and Intelsat will cooperate in this position, sharing orbital resources to expand the services available to the audiovisual sector as to other customers in the region.
Stephen Spengler, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Intelsat, has welcomed HISPASAT "as a collaborator at 55.5 O. Intelsat has a solid and rich history as a provider of connectivity and distribution of content in Latin America. We hope to work with Hispasat in future opportunities in the region to strengthen further our joint presence".
For his part, Carlos Espin s, Managing Director of Hispasat, has declared that "agreement with Intelsat enrolls in the line marked by the strategic plan of the company, one of the pillars of growth based on alliances with third parties, and allows Hispasat to take advantage of the capacity and life of the Amazon 1 and operate in a new orbital position to strengthen the Groups position in Latin America." This agreement, unprecedented in the history of our company, is an example of the effort in the optimization of resources in orbit that Hispasat wants to apply within the framework of its new growth plan."
New orbital rights at 61 West HISPASAT, through its Brazilian subsidiary Hispamar Satelites, just get orbital rights in the Brazilian orbital position 61 West on Ku-band. These rights are valid for 15 years, extendable by many others. Hispamar satellites was the winner of the tender, offering of 29.5 million dollars, in an auction organized by the National Telecommunications Agency Brazil, Anatel, which were seven operators of satellites around the world.
HISPASAT thus committed to increase its presence in the Latin American market, where it is expected a growth rate of demand for space capacity of 5.7% per year for the next five years, and in which the Spanish company is an operator of reference at the regional level. In 2013, he obtained 55.6% of their income on the American continent, where it is already a leader in the distribution of content in Spanish and Portuguese and the fourth operator by revenue.
