OLIVER HERMANUS' LIVING' AT THE VENICE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL Oliver Hermanus' Living comes after his 2019 biographical LGBTQI+ film, Moffie. The film, shot in the Western Cape, was nominated for the Horizons Award and the Queer Lion Award at the Venice International Film Festival in 2021.
Now, a year later, his 2021 film, Living, has broken an important rule at the Venice Film Festival which states that all films selected to be screened, must be world premieres. Hermanus' work is the only film that has already premiered at a different festival.

Living is adapted from the 1952 Japanese drama film, Ikiru, directed by Akira Kurosawa. The South African actor's film follows Mr Williams (played by Bill Nighly), a British man who is facing a deadly illness.

Our first in-person audience seeing Living. Thank you La Biennale di Venezia for having us and Alexander McQueen for making me look the part. Onto the next.
