Netflix Announces New Documentary Film About Latin Music Icon, Juan Gabriel

Netflix announced it has reached an agreement with the estate of legendary Mexican recording star and prolific songwriter Juan Gabriel, to produce a new documentary film about the life of the global icon. The agreement will grant access to Juan Gabriel's music and exclusive never before seen access into the life of the singer through extensive archive materials.
We are excited to collaborate with Netflix to release the story of my father's personal life and musical career in this Documentary with Maria Jose Cuevas and with Mezcla. Bringing my father's true story to the screen has been a project we have wanted to release for quite some time now. The documentary film will be directed by Award-winning director Mar a Jos Cuevas (Beauties of the Night and upcoming Netflix documentary film The Lady of Silence: The Mataviejitas Murders) and produced by Laura Woldenberg and Ivonne Gutierrez from Mezcla. The two previously produced for Netflix the acclaimed documentary film The Three Deaths of Marisela Escobedo and the documentary series 1994. Production for the documentary will take place in the US and Mexico this year.

Throughout his stellar 45-year career, he released more than 47 albums and helped popularize Latin music worldwide. His songs have been recorded in Japanese, Turkish, Bulgarian, French, Italian, Greek, Portuguese, Dutch, Melayu, Hawaiian and English. One of the most recognized and acclaimed Mexican singers in the history of Spanish language music, Juan Gabriel's hits include Hasta que te conoc , Abr zame Muy Fuerte, Querida, Amor Eterno, and As Fue , among many others. The Latin music icon has sold more than 150 million albums, composed more than 1,800 songs, released 34 studio albums, and over 20 of his hits reached the Top 10 on Billboard (including 7 #1 Billboard Hot Latin Songs). Juan Gabriel built a legacy as a multifaceted artist, recording songs in genres as diverse as ranchero, ballad, pop, bolero, and producing dozens of albums for Mexican and foreign artists. Across his artistic career, Juan Gabriel collaborated both in concerts and in the studio with major international singers such as Juanes, Luis Fonsi, Alejandro Fern ndez, Roc o D rcal, Marc Anthony, David Bisbal, Natalia Lafourcade, Vicente Fernandez, Isabel Pantoja, Laura Pausini, and many more.Juan Gabriel's multiple accolades include three Latin Grammys (including Album of the Year in 2016), Billboard Awards, and MTV Music Awards. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and Juan Gabriel Day is celebrated on October 5th in Los Angeles and December 17th in Las Vegas.
