Angry Birds hit Canal J and Gulli, like youve never seen them before!
At last: a TV version of Angry Birds! On 16 March, the most famous, most furious birds in the world will be squawking their way onto TV sets worldwide via a new animated series. Red, Chuck, Matilda, Bomb, Blues and Terence will roost exclusively on Canal J and Gulli and will be ready to go to any lengths to protect their nests from those greedy green pigs!
Watch out for the arrival of some top international stars on Canal J and Gulli on 16 March 2013: after soaring to almost unprecedented heights of popularity on smartphone screens (a record 30 million downloads in various versions over Christmas week in 2012 alone) and reproduced in a range of formats - stuffed animals, toys, board games, theme parks, prepaid Visa cards and more - these furious birds, created in December 2009 by Finnish video-game studio Rovio, are set to take our TVs by storm with an animated series of 52 episodes of 2 minutes and 45 seconds each, produced by Rovio itself.
And it wont be long before they swap the small screen for the big screen: in 2016, the studio is planning to release a feature-length 3D animated movie based on the popular game. Rovio is already reported to have signed up John Cohen, producer of the animated film Despicable Me, and David Maisel, former president of Marvel Studios, as executive producer.
"The Angry Birds game is already a firm favourite with millions of people. The arrival of these cult characters in an animated series is a major event that promises to win over their biggest fans. Were delighted that our channels have been chosen in France for the international launch of the Angry Birds series," explain Caroline Cochaux and Caroline Mestik, the heads of programming Gulli and Canal J.
So beware! Spring will be bringing more than warm weather and the tweeting of newly-hatched chicks this year. Those grumpy, unstoppable birds and their sworn enemies - the light-fingered green pigs - will also be on hand!
