AIMS gains

5280 Broadcast, AJA Video Systems and Harmonic have joined the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS).

The Alliance, which appointed its board last week, was formed to promote open standards and interoperability in the transition to IP.

System integrators 5280 Broadcast supports broadcast and cable facilities with its production and post production facility design and construction.

Tony Roccanova, chief operating officer at 5280 Broadcast, said, As system integrators, we are in a unique position to educate and guide our customers through the forthcoming transition from baseband to IP workflows and infrastructure.

We strongly believe that the interoperability and open standards being promoted by AIMS will be the keys to the success of this transition.

AJA Video Systems, which employs over 200 people worldwide, manufactures video capture cards, digital recording devices, video routers, frame synchronisers and scalers, digital converters and professional 4K cameras.

Video delivery infrastructure solutions provider Harmonic has also joined the alliance. The US-based company provides broadcasters, service providers and other media companies with emerging video capabilities that are ready to deploy on a global scale.

Bart Spriester, senior vice president of video products explained, Harmonic is very active in industry standards bodies. The AIMS approach to the IP transition and their drive to industry-wide adoption of standards is well aligned with our own thinking on the use of standards to deliver ubiquitous interoperability.

We are pleased to support the goals and methodology that AIMS brings to unifying our industry under a common approach to IP I/O.

AIMS was launched in December with a mandate to bring IP solutions to market that offer complete interoperability, are based on open standards, and integrate into media workflow environments to foster industry innovation and efficiency.

The Alliance includes Snell Advanced Media, Grass Valley, Imagine Communications and Lawo.
