Collections and Permissions in VidiXplore

In episode 2 of the VidiXplore mini-tutorials we learn how to quickly move many files into a new or existing collection, and take a look at the collection tree. We also see that we can move and clone collections, and assign different permissions to them. Finally, we take a look at permissions.

Where did the media end up Last episode we had the team import media to the VidiXplore instance using several different methods, from web upload to connecting a VidiXplore agent. The uploaded media always ends up in the root of the user importing the media, and normally all users in an instance can see all media that is imported. We made a different choice and instead set it up to not show any newly imported media to all users. This is done in your account settings (see image below).

Setting the content permissions to None means that only the current user sees the content (and of course the owner of the instance). In the last episode, we prepared a collection for the media in the project, the collection vidixplore demo job. As all user's media end up in the root, each user must move the relevant media to the project collection. The easiest way to do that is bulk select and add to the existing vidixplore demo job collection.

Creating and moving collections So, we have collected a large collection of media items to be used in our project. You're not really in the mood for idea making, it's blank, no ideas, but as you didn't get your morning coffee you type coffee into the search bar, and actually get some results. Great, you can save those in a special collection and have the in-house team see if they can do something around coffee and good ideas.

Just as above, you bulk select the items but instead of adding them to an existing collection, you go ahead and create the new collection The coffee project. Set permissions for the in-house team (demo-inhouse) and then move the newly created collection to be inside the vidixplore demo job collection, to keep them together. Now you have a collection with all items and inside that collection another collection with only coffee related items.
