Africa s Kwes TV chooses EBS for EPG services

Econet Media's Kwese TV will be using EBS as its EPG metadata service provider.

In January, Kwes TV launched more than 50 channels, offering entertainment, news and sports. Kwes TV is currently available in Ghana, Rwanda and Zambia via Kwes 's satellite and decoder. The company plans to roll out the network out across Africa.

The partnership with EBS enables Kwes TV to deliver enriched metadata and images for every programme via EBS's EPG and metadata management application, Pawa. Using Pawa in-house, the Kwes team can enhance data and easily make schedule changes. Enhanced metadata makes content easier for subscribers to discover.

EBS can deliver EPG data in any file format and provide additional data sets to compliment categories such as Twitter hashtags and rights-approved, high-quality programme images. EBS services include EPG scheduling and distribution, TV metadata solutions, VOD-EPG integration, image libraries, press schedules, and editorial and translation services.

Owned by Econet Media, and part of the Econet Group, Kwes TV's multiplatform offering enables viewers to extends across linear, mobile and digital platforms as well as paid and free-to-air services across Africa. Last year Econet Media acquired the exclusive free-to-air broadcasting rights to the English Premier League for the next three seasons. Kwes Free Sports forms part of the twelve Kwes -owned suite of channels. These are accompanied by multiple third-party services including AMC, TRACE, REVOLT, Viceland and Animal Planet.
